It contains one of the most important collections of Etruscan art in the world and is housed in the Palazzo della Crocetta, which was built for the grand duchess MariaMadalena of Austria in 1620, probably by Giulio Parigi. Established in 1870, the museum was housed in the current building in 1880.

The most importante section of the Archaeological Museum is formed by the Egyptian collections, the most important in Italy after those of Turin. The original core of the Egyptian section, which was formerly housed in the Cenacolo di Foligno, was the Nizzoli collection, purchased in 1824, together with pieces from the Italian expedition headed by Ippolito Rosellini, which took place at the same time as the French expedition of Champollion. The collection was subsequently added to through numerous acquisitions and donations, as well as by the finds of the 1885 and 1891-92 archaeological campaigns in Egypt led by Schiaparelli.

The museum’s most famous work, the bronze Greek statue known as the Idolino, is housed in the Room of the Idolino. Displayed in the Bronze Gallery are three large Etruscan bronzes: the statue of Minerva, the famous Wounded Chimera of Bellerophon, from the 5th century BC, and the Harranguer, a monumental funerary statue from the 3rd century.

————————————————–

That is why it is chosen by the best fashion design companies as the perfect event to show new collections and special projects and to consolidate innovative marketing strategies. The general theme of this year’s fair concept is “Design Watching”. The innovative and curious concept deals with offering new contributions to the world of fashion design through recommendations and visual and sound notes collected by a group of design watchers, buyers, journalists, image consultants, designers and opinion leaders found among experts of the international community of the Pitti people. All these preofessionals have been asked to identify their favorite designer items focusing on the ideas of tradition and modernity.

From our Florence B&B you can get to the Fortezza da Basso, where the fair is held, by bus in a few minutes.

We have recently added three new rooms to our B&B in Florence city center. They are located on the first floor of an old building next to our house. The entrance is in Volta dei Tintori No.1 (a little cross street intersecting Corso dei Tintori) just a stone’s throw from the beautiful Lungarno delle Grazie.

All the rooms are wide, bright, cosy and furnished in a very elegant style. We offer the best service at a very affordable price. Like any other room, also the three new ones are ensuite rooms provided with air-conditioning, TV, WiFi internet access. Furnishings and decor are beautiful and, together with fabrics we have chosen, they reproduce the models of a traditional nineteenth-century Florentine house.

The three rooms are provided with their own private bathroom with anteroom, and they are equipped with shower and hairdryer. Each guest is given a full set of linen.

The B&B also has a common area equipped with refrigerator, microwave oven, kettle and coffee pot.

Guests staying in our new rooms in Volta dei Tintori No. 1 will have breakfast at a traditional coffee house a few steps from the B&B. The new rooms do not have an access to the main house and therefore do not share our breakfast room. Vouchers will be supplied at check-in.

These rooms represent a refreshing alternative Casa dei Tintori offers at a more affordable price while preserving the same quality level and services.

The Boboli Gardens will be the place to the fourth edition of the exhibition market called “Boboli’s Fragrances”, from the 6th to the 9th of May 2010. The exhibition will be about the tradition of Florence’s perfumery industry.

The event, the only one of its kind, will give perfume makers the chance to show and sell their creations during a three-day festival. The historic and art spaces of the Boboli gardens will highlight fragrances and styles, retracing the most important and timeless moments of that kind of production.

Visitors will find on show perfumes, candles, soaps, air perfumes, essential oils, cosmetics, herbal extracts, flowers, fragrant plants, accessories and so on.

In the nearby Museum of Zoology and Natural History “La Specola”, another very interesting exhibition will be set up. Photographs, drawings and narration through images will emphasize some of the most hidden and evocative secrets of the environmental heritage of our region.

The opening of the exhibition will be on Thursday 6th in May 2010. It will end on the 30th of June 2010.

The exhibitions will be held until May 9th at Palazzo Medici Riccardi, at “La Specola” (the Museum of Zoology and Natural History), at the Museum of the History of Science on Lungarno delle Grazie and the Science and Technology Cabinet.

The four exhibitions have been supported and organized by Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze for the cycle called “Little Big Museums”.

The exhibitions have been dedicated to Florence’s cultural and intellectual climate of pre-Risorgimento age, when many innovations proliferated in every field of science. Many masterpieces are shown: paintings, drawings, models and scientific collections among the most important in the world.

It is worth pointing out the opening to the public of the restored Torrino della Specola.

Moreover the Science and Technology Cabinet, offers free entries and guided visits to secondary schools students of the entire Province of Florence.

Students will admire the magnificent set of scientific sample and instruments of the late nineteenth century.

The box office has so far sold 11,293 cards, namely a special ticket (full price 10 euros, reduced price 7.5 and 4.5) that provides access to all four exhibitions offering numerous advantages such as free or discounted entry in many museums and exhibitions.

From next spring on, if you’re planning a pleasant weekend in a B&B in Florence, you can take the chance to visit one of the most interesting and entertaining exhibitions scheduled in the Tuscan capital.
